I have worked in small animal practices, emergency clinics, cardiovascular research, practice management, alternative medicine, surgery only and I was a cruelty investigator for the Houston SPCA for years.
I am currently the canine internal medicine technician for the Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Over the years, I have fallen in love with the pit bull breed. They have an amazing capacity to forgive and love. Even the worst abuse and fighting cases amazed me by their love for people.
I have never taken any animals home, with the exception of the two pit bulls that I have now.
(My crackers) The instant that I saw them, I teared up and said. "That is my dog.."
They were both brought into the University at different times.
"Charlie" (For Charlie's Angels) was 6 months old when someone poured a caustic liquid down her back and it burned through her skin. She also is completely deaf. She is one of the most amazing dogs that I have ever seen. I taught her sign language and she constantly watches me for signals. She even goes on trail rides with me and the horses and stays at a safe distance, stopping when I stop.
She brings so much joy to our lives.
"Vonn" (For Warrior) is a very special story. He was lit on fire and burned over 70% of his body, also at 6 months of age. He had to be anesthetized and bandaged every day for 30 days. He was in critical care for an extended period of time and not expected to survive. His love and drive was remarkable. He would hobble towards me, in a full body cast, wagging his tail. He still has half of his body scarred, just the same as severe human burn victims. It doesn't slow him down! He is now 2 years old and 85#'s!
He loves everyone and I take him to schools and events to discuss animal cruelty.
He just requires a little sunscreen and lotion occasionally.
I really love this app! What a great opportunity to share our love for the breed!
